“MySQL Cloud” by Carsten Thalheimer, the Master Principal Solution Engineer In early 2020, Oracle introduced the MySQL Database Service (MDS), which is based on the Oracle Gen 2 cloud infrastructure and MySQL 8. It is 100% developed, managed and supported by the Oracle MySQL team. This was followed in late 2020 by a second MySQL cloud offering called MySQL HeatWave for Real-time Analytics, which is based on a new in-memory analytics accelerator and includes machine learning and Lakehouse functionality 'out-of-the-box'. This service provides a single, unified platform for both OLTP and OLAP workloads and enables scalable analytics across hundreds (!) of terabytes. In this talk we will look at the MySQL services MySQL HA, MySQL Analytics & Machine Learning but also the new MySQL Lakehouse.

MariaDB as a service in Seznam cloud by Michal Kuchta, SW Engineer & Roman Vanerek, Infrastructure Team Leader at Seznam.cz We are building database clusters using open-source technologies such as MariaDB, Galera, ProxySQL, Ansible, Terraform, etc. within the Seznam Cloud Infrastructure environment - an internal cloud solution, similar to AWS. In this talk, we will explore MariaDB replication strategies that can be employed in cloud environments to achieve high availability. We will cover everything from simple primary-replica setups to Galera multi-master replication. Additionally, we will discuss how we have implemented MariaDB as a Service within our company. We will take you through the journey, starting from the first asynchronous clusters built on Percona Server to our current fully automated environment based on the Galera Cluster, with a strong focus on availability.

Carsten ThalheimerMySQL Master Principal Solution Engineer at Oracle
Carsten Thalheimer has been working in the IT industry for more than 20 years and has worked for Integrata AG, SCO Group Inc., Tarantella Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. He joined Oracle in 2010 as a MySQL Solution Engineer for the Oracle MySQL GBU. In his actual role as the MySQL Cloud Evangelist he advises strategic customers in the EMEA region on the use of Oracle MySQL databases and analytics engine services. His focus is on architectural planning of MySQL database designs for mission-critical deployments. He is a regular speaker at Oracle and community events such as FrOSCon, LOADays, DOAG and DOAG MySQL SIG, IT-Tage, PerconaLive, PHP Conferences and MySQL Tech Days.

For the last 12 years, he has worked for the largest Czech internet company, Seznam.cz, providing news, search, email, advertising, and similar services to Czech users. His everyday job involves designing scalable and fast web-based applications that align with business goals and ensure continuous availability. To achieve these objectives, large MariaDB + Galera + ProxySQL-based database clusters are deployed within a custom cloud infrastructure, similar to AWS. He regularly delivers talks at colleges about MariaDB, and he had the opportunity to speak at Percona Live and various database meetups several times.
Roman VaněrekInfrastructure Team Leader at Seznam.cz
He has been the DBA team leader at Seznam.cz (the largest IT company in Czechia) since 2015. His journey started as a Linux system administrator. After a few years, he transitioned to become a DBA, driven by his passion for MySQL architecture and configuration. In his current role, he leads a team of DBAs responsible for all the MySQL database clusters in the company.
