KEYNOTE ABSTRACT:
An autonomous database is a cloud database that uses machine learning to eliminate the human labor associated with database infrastructure, security, backups, updates, and other routine management tasks traditionally performed by the database administrators (DBAs).
ADW is built around the market-leading database and comes with fully automated data warehouse specific features that deliver outstanding query performance.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
AsterionDB, an extension that resides in an Oracle Database Container, manages unstructured data across one or more applications. The data itself resides within the Oracle Database instance and as a result participates in the same processes already followed to assure data integrity and disaster recovery. Many other solutions place unstructured data in the legacy file system based on repositories or other external structures. These other solutions increase workload and costs while decreasing security.
While it is possible for a given application to hold these values in BLOB columns, it is challenging for the same information to be easily integrated into other applications. In contrast, AsterionDB provides a unifying fabric to share unstructured data among all applications.
Unlike a legacy file system based solution, access to and security of the unstructured data is implemented at the object level rather than the directory level. This reduces the attack surface area by providing granular security in contrast to exposing all files within a directory.
WORKSHOP STEPS:
The workshop will cover:
- Creating an "Always Free" Autonomous Database
- Creating a companion "Free" Compute Node
- Installation of AsterionDB product and its dependencies
- Walkthrough the included Tutorial that demonstrates moving unstructured data into AsterionDB and modifying an application with a minimal number of steps.
- Benefits of leveraging JSON directly as Database Responses
WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR:
Kirk Gustafson, Director of Product Management in Oracle’s Database Development Organization.
Kirk has been on the cutting edge at Oracle as it relates to new product development, beta testing and product release. Product areas have ranged from mobile and wireless to RFID to Collaboration Suite to Fusion Applications to currently the Oracle Autonomous Database, and the Oracle Cloud.
Tim Robertson, VP of Oracle Solutions Group at AsterionDB, Inc., Tim brings more than 29 years of Product Development, Cloud Infrastructure Management and Software Architecture experience during his previous roles at Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, CA.
