Women Panel discussion
How Women Are Taking a Different Approach to Problem-Solving and Innovation in AEC
Today’s women professionals are breaking the model of problem solving and management, spawning a new wave of innovation. Studies have proven that women are wired to approach a problem from many different perspectives—including exploring various potential concerns—before forming a decision. Women often “listen between the lines”, due to their collaborative-based nature, to fully grasp the scope of a problem.
With this background, how are women in AEC offering fresh, innovative insights to address customers’ concerns and develop co-creation strategies?
This interactive session will provide an overview of how to approach common industry problems—including known knowns, known unknowns, and big unknowns—as well as how women tend to solve obstacles. Questions may include: How long do our processes take? How accurate are we with our schedules? What are our typical unexpected risks? What are our typical causes of project delay? And more.
Panel questions and Q&A to follow before closing remarks. OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group: The digitalisation of a steel giant and how the journey shifted to Unifier at Future of Projects London 2017

Digital by design – how data and analytics can be a game changer in construction
Karthik Venkatasubramanian
Vice President, Data Science and Analytics at Oracle Construction and Engineering
Construction projects create massive amounts of data, but the way that data is used varies greatly – from sitting on a storage device as an archive, to being treated as a strategic asset that some argue should make its way to the balance sheet. Talking about data in volumetric terms does not do it any justice, though, as the stories data can tell can enable true transformation and drive continuous improvement for organizations. From looking at past data and picking patterns to the use of AI for making predictions, this session will cover the fundamentals of the data journey with examples, anecdotes and visualizations drawn from extensive experience across many type of organizations working to leverage data strategically.

Why digitising payments should be an essential not an eye roll
Kevin McCarthy
UK Textura Manager for Oracle Construction and Engineering
The last 12 months have been awash with news stories about supplier payment issues in construction. With suspensions from the prompt payment code, the threat of the domestic VAT reverse charge delayed but not forgotten; and yet more constructions firms entering administration; it’s more important than ever for the industry to digitise back-end systems. In this presentation, Kevin McCarthy talks about why payments management should be front and centre of your digital strategy, what benefits it brings, some of the hurdles facing construction firms trying to digitise payment management as well as how to overcome those. This talk will highlight how digitising payments should be an essential not an eye roll.
Trust, Adoption, and Data Neutrality: The Keys to Engineering Project Success
Andrew Barron
Director Product Management at Oracle Construction and Engineering
Large-scale engineering initiatives typically involve hundreds of stakeholders—and often geographically distributed teams—executing a complex sequence of tasks that requires pinpoint timing. Streamlined communication and collaboration are crucial to project success. Failings in both are often cited by owners as a source of cost overruns. This session examines how the nature of project relationships—particularly a lack of trust—can create inefficiencies and other obstacles to collaboration that bring costs and delays. It also explores how Oracle Aconex, as a neutral collaboration platform, can fully enable trust to drive the successful management of large-scale construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects.
