Darren Bechtel is the founder and Managing Director of Brick & Mortar Ventures, the leading sector-specific venture capital fund focused on emerging technologies to improve the way we design, build, and maintain the built environment. With a portfolio of nineteen built world startups, including early investments in PlanGrid, BuildingConnected, Rhumbix, and Fieldwire, Darren has been the single most active early stage investor in AEC and FM tech over the past five years. Prior to entering venture capital, Darren spent more than seven years in startup operations and management in the life sciences industry. Darren currently sits on the boards of startups BuildingConnected, ManufactOn, Fieldwire, Zlien, Holobuilder, Branch Technology, and EverCharge.
Jeff Sharp

Jeff Sharp is driving technology innovation at Transurban, leveraging partnerships to bring diverse and innovative solutions to market.
As General Manager - Technology Partnerships & Innovation, he’s charged with advancing and commercialising emergent technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things) and Data Analytics utilising cutting edge Artificial Intelligence applications.
Jeff has experience across a range of technologies, spanning transportation, telecommunications, mining and healthcare sectors. He has been at the forefront of electric car charging networks in Australia and has an entrepreneurial streak, launching his own start-up. Alan McKay
State Manager, Project & Development Services VIC/TA, JLL Biography:
Alan has over 13 years of experience in the successful delivery of projects in the hotel, commercial, retail, banking and leisure sectors. He provides executive level oversight to support and inform project delivery and performance. With expertise in all aspects of the project life cycle, he participates in tender evaluations and contract matters, undertakes monthly project reviews and recommends corrective actions, and oversees and reviews risk registers on a monthly basis. His skills include authority approvals, leading consultants and contractors, conflict resolution, timely delivery of projects, and negotiating and building audits coordinating various consultant inputs.
He has extensive experience on large capital works programs in the Middle East, UK and Australia. Prior to joining JLL in Australia, Alan worked as a Senior Consultant at JLL’s London office. He has worked as a Senior Project Manager at one of London’s largest consultancy and construction firms and as a Research and Mechanical Engineer at the University of Tasmania.

Cameron offers a unique perspective having spent over 20 years working in Design, Construction, I.T. Networking and Systems Development.
He has had management roles on some of New Zealand's largest Infrastructure Projects and once even won an international award for innovation.
Craig Watkins

With a wide range of industry experience covering a variety of roles from site engineering to design and project management in New Zealand and the UK, Craig is leading the development of BIM opportunities and Systems integration within Hawkins (New Zealand). He is an active member of the BIM Industry Training Group in NZ with a passion for technology and continues to work towards a consistent, lean and collaborative environment.
Leigh Jasper Vice President, Strategy and Operations, Oracle Construction and Engineering
Previously he was the CEO of Aconex. Biography:
Together with co-founder, Rob Phillpot, Leigh raised $86 million in private equity investment and built Aconex into the leading cloud collaboration platform for the global construction industry. Connecting more than 70,000 organisations to manage over $1 trillion of project value, in more than 70 countries, Aconex is the industry’s most widely adopted and trusted platform.
Aconex listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2014 and was recently acquired by Oracle in Australia’s largest ever technology acquisition.
Prior to Aconex, Leigh worked at McKinsey & Company, where he consulted for clients in the financial services, media and information technology sectors.
Leigh is a Director of the Burnet Institute, a not-for-profit organization, which aims to improve health in poor and vulnerable communities in Australia and internationally through research, education and public health.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree with First Class Honors, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Diploma of Modern Languages in French from the University of Melbourne.

He is currently Oracle Construction and Engineering Executive Sponsor on several key customers in the UK, Japan, China and Australia.
Oliver oversees the development, implementation and communication of the Global Sales Consulting strategy and the Channel and Alliance strategy for the Construction & Engineering Global Business Unit within Oracle. The team is responsible for matching customer requirements to Oracle solutions in order to drive value through hard benefits. Oliver is responsible for the support of license revenue in the Oracle Construction & Engineering Global Business Unit.

Dr. Burcin Kaplanoglu is a recognized industry technologist and thought leader. He is leading Industry Strategy and Innovation at Oracle’s Global Construction and Engineering Business Unit. He frequently speaks and publishes articles related to Internet of Things (IoT), disruption of CE, investments and construction technology in industry publications. He was named one of Engineering News Record’s “Top 20 Contributors Under 40” in 2016. He is also an adjunct professor at Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering since 2008. He has served as co-chair of semi-annual “Technology for Construction” Symposium for the Northwestern University since 2011.
Sam Chandler
Founder & CEO, Nitro Biography:
Sam started his first company at 16, while still in high school, and his second at 21, while attending university. After founding Nitro with several friends in Melbourne in 2005, the once-tiny startup has gone on to become a Silicon Valley success story. Today, Sam leads a team of over 150 Nitronauts across the US, Australia, Europe and Asia, and every month, millions of people in nearly 200 countries use Nitro products. Sam was the Ernst and Young Australian Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year for 2014. Jasna Sims
Group Head of Innovation Culture, Lendlease Biography:
Jasna Sims has 20+ years’ experience in the property and construction industries; the past 17 of those she has been working for Lendlease in the UK, the USA and now in Australia. Though she is an architect, she has had a variety of roles, ranging from architecture, design management, project and programme management, value management, consulting and transformation.
One of her favorite quotes says that "your customers are rarely buying what you think that you’re selling". So she has spent a lot of her career seconded to her customer's organisations, such as London Underground in the UK, BP in the US and the Commonwealth Bank in Australia to get a true understanding of her customer. She gets energised about developing creative and innovative solutions.

Michael Dyson
Managing Director ANZ & SE ASIA, SOTI Biography:
Michael Dyson joined SOTI in August 2018 as Managing Director for Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
For more than 16 years, he has been a leading figure in the implementation of mobile and remote solutions for mission and business critical applications in Australia. With extensive experience across the First Responder, Healthcare, Utility, Transport and Logistics and Field Service sectors, Michael has worked with leading technology companies such as Panasonic to deliver successful project outcomes for Enterprise and Government.
A key contributor and speaker at conferences across Australia, Michael has addressed audiences on the challenges of developing and implementing mobile technology in business and mission-critical environments. Michael works with the broader team to build and expand the SOTI business across ANZ and South East Asia. Doug Zuzic

Doug Zuzic is CIO of ADCO Constructions, one of Australia’s oldest and most established construction companies.
Doug is responsible for IT Strategy, Systems and Project Support across all ADCO’s national operations. He has more than 15 years’ executive experience in the construction industry with experience ranging from IT project management, infrastructure, applications and integration. He has been tasked with driving ADCO’s technology agenda, delivering numerous significant IT projects.
With nearly 50 years’ experience ADCO has delivered over 3,500 projects valued in excess of $14 billion and is one of Australia’s top 100 private companies.

Dr. Adrian Smith is an industry leader in adapting and applying Agile and Lean methods within software engineering and business technology. As a sought-after consultant, he has led and coached engineering and software development teams for major brands including Airbus, GKN Aerospace, BBC Worldwide, Suncorp, Nokia and Data#3. Today, Adrian is Co-Founder and Head of Engineering for Envision, an Australian software product development company. Envision is delivering technology advances for the construction industry, in particular, leveraging Lean and Agile methods to develop practical and innovative engineering solutions. Adrian is regularly called on for his specialist experience, which spans industries including aerospace, banking, construction, digital media, engineering, insurance, mining and public infrastructure. He is also an Agile coach and regular contributor at Australian and international conferences.
Rob Phillpot
Global Vice President, Product Strategy, Oracle Construction & Engineering Biography:
Rob is the Global Vice President of Product Strategy for Oracle Construction & Engineering. He has strategic oversight across the full suite of construction and engineering products at Oracle, including Primavera P6, Textura, Unifier, Prime and Aconex.
Prior to Oracle, Rob was a co-founder of Aconex together with Leigh Jasper, and most recently was the Head of Product Strategy. After starting as a cloud-native application in Melbourne in 2000 (before cloud was the term it means today) Aconex grew internationally to be the largest of its kind in the world and supported iconic projects, including Marina Bay Sands, the Panama Canal expansion, Dubai Metro, Hong Kong airport and New York City Hall – all supported by staff in 42 cities around the world. After a successful float on the ASX in 2014, Aconex was acquired by Oracle for $1.6bn in 2018, which is the largest technology acquisition in Australian history.
Rob started his career as an auditor for Deloitte and then moved to the world of construction, where he worked for Multiplex on high-rise projects – which exposed Rob to the pain of dealing with the information flows between hundreds of companies on large projects and drove the genesis of the idea for Aconex. Rob has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters in Building from Melbourne University.

Anthony Roe
Head of Digital Technology and Innovation, Downer Group Biography:
Anthony is the Head of Digital Technology and Innovation in the Mining, Energy and Industrial division of Downer Group. He leads the Digital Technology Acceleration Program implementing Asset Data Services, Digital Asset Visualization, Data Science, AI, Digital Transformation and Operationalization of Digital Technology Service lines. Anthony joined Downer Group following a 17-year global career in digital technology and 15 year Industrial career in the Oil & Gas and Power Generation Industries. In a decade long career at IBM he held a number of senior executive roles in Europe before spending the last 4 years in Australia as a “thought leader” in Industrial Artificial Intelligence and Analytics.
Nicole Small (Kleid)
Investment Manager, Rampersand Biography:
Nicole is the Investment Manager at Rampersand, an early stage venture capital fund specialising in late seed and Series A investments. Prior to Rampersand, Nicole spent seven years in Seek’s strategy team, and a number of years in strategy consulting and investment banking. This journey has given her broad insight into investing, product strategy, general business operations and fast growth technology environments. Nicole holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Commerce.
Effie Eleftheriadis
Creator of a fully integrated mental health strategy for the Metro Tunnel project Biography:
Currently working on Melbourne’s life enhancing project, the Metro Tunnel, Effie Eleftheriadis understands innovation and the opportunities it can provide to drive improvement.
As a Health and Safety professional, she is the creator of an integrated, long-term mental health strategy, using technology to enable enhanced outcomes for all on the project.
No stranger to personal transformation, Effie’s career began in Retail and due to her desire to facilitate the learning journey, shifted from Business Management to Learning & Development Manager. Her belief in people as solution creators saw her move into Health and Safety, working in the oil, gas and construction industries, partnering with all levels of leadership to drive business improvements through people.
Her greatest passions involve learning and implementing best practice approaches from other industries and helping create environments where individuals realise their potential, work productively and contribute to their organisations and communities.

Peter Iredale

Peter started his Information Technology career in 1984 when he joined IBM. Prior to co-founding Allinno Pty Ltd in 2018, Peter completed 20 years with Oracle.
His experience spans business development and sales across both direct and channels go to market models across mid and top tier government and commercial sectors. He has a particular passion for assisting clients with their Enterprise Project Portfolio Management business case and solution needs. During his career he has amassed skills with all aspects of Information Technology enabled transformations, through Recognition of Needs, Evaluation of Options, Business Case Justification, Solution Implementation and Adoption.
Karthik Venkatasubramanian
Senior Director, Data Strategy and Operations, Oracle Construction and Engineering Biography:
Karthik Venkatasubramanian is currently a Senior Director at Oracle wherein he has global responsibility for defining and delivering the Data Strategy within Oracle’s Construction and Engineering Business Unit. In a career spanning 20 years across 4 continents, Karthik has been instrumental in building data and analytics capabilities from the ground-up for many organizations across several industries. He has successfully led several large scale digitisation and transformation programs across IT, Sales, Marketing, Finance and Operations that have been the featured in case studies, patent applications, industry publications and international conferences.
He has an Engineering Degree in Electronics and Communication and a MBA from Melbourne Business School. He is also part of the Industry Advisory Board within the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics at Deakin Business School.
Karthik is a passionate believer in creative innovation through the use of technology and infuses an element of “dataism” in almost every aspect of life. He regularly presents at Universities and industry events globally around the use of data to transform project delivery. His current focus is on the application of data science techniques in solving real world construction and engineering problems.
Steven Brant
Senior Director Construction & Engineering Solutions, Oracle
Oracle Construction and Engineering Biography:
Steve is an engineer with a 35 year career spanning manufacturing, production engineering, building & infrastructure life safety and construction & engineering technologies.
After joining Aconex in 2005, Steve ran the sales team across Australia and New Zealand before joining the leadership team as ANZ General Manager and guiding the region through sustained rapid growth. Contributing to global company strategy as well as policy, product, sales, client service and marketing, the ANZ business remained the Jewel in the crown of the Aconex company upon its listing in 2014 and at its eventual sale to Oracle Corp. Steve is a Senior Director at Oracle where he is involved in multiple areas and continues to advocate for the customer.
David Broadhurst
CEO (Chief Engagement Officer), CodeSafe Solutions Services Pty Ltd Biography:
Born in England and still sporting an accent, Dave is a down to earth, passionate advocate for worker engagement and an out of the box presenter. He teaches organisations the critical importance of harnessing worker tacit knowledge and has pioneered conducting “mentoring and coaching workshops” out in the field rather than in a classroom. His experience comes from leading large crews all over Australia installing large diameter pipelines for the likes of John Holland, Melbourne Water, Tenix and more. Dave loves to tackle more resistant individuals, who perhaps may not respond so enthusiastically to the importance of policies and procedures. Watching him in action is always a significantly positive experience for all concerned.
Dave established CodeSafe, a coaching, media and software solutions company, seven years ago. Shortly thereafter, CodeSafe was awarded the Victorian WorkSafe Health and Safety Invention of the Year award for the Experiential Learning Program. This program went on to be nominated as a Finalist in the National Safe Work Australia Awards. Since then, he has become a recognised expert in worker engagement. He’s often invited to contribute to thought-leading panels such as RMIT’s Industry Advisory Groups, among others, and provides invaluable insights into the psychology of work groups. The Experiential Learning methodology has been independently evaluated by RMIT, winning them both National and International research paper awards. CodeSafe is a positive agent of influence in Australia with key relationships forged with regulators, industry peak bodies, large corporations and small business owners.

Beginning his journey in the construction industry with Caterpillar, over the past decade Philip has founded and exited two ventures in Ag-tech and Construction-tech.
With the rising demands on construction, Philip helped co-found Superseed Ventures, one of Australia's first ConTech focused venture capital firms.
Mark Webster
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Construction & Engineering Biography:
Mark’s 30 year career in the IT market includes sales and executive leadership roles at NCR Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Verizon Communications, Evolve/Primavera and Verdiem Corporation.
Mark works closely with our client leadership teams to deploy innovative and transformative business solutions with an emphasis on measurable results. His knowledge of the Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management marketplace make him a frequent contributor to industry events.
Mark resides in the Cleveland, Ohio area with his wife and two sons.
Shane Martin
Chief Information Officer, Toga Group Biography:
Shane Martin is currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Toga Group. His diverse career includes previous CIO roles at Mirvac, Stockland, Phillips Fox Lawyers (now part of DLA Piper), ANZ Bank – Personal Banking and QBE Insurance. Shane has also worked on the ‘vendor side’ as a senior executive with EDS Australia (later became HP, HPE and now DXC) where he ran the outsourced IT services into to the Retail Bank of Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
Shane has also served as a non-Executive Director of an ASX listed IT services company and has been both an independent consultant, and a consultant with Coopers & Lybrand (now part of PwC).
He commenced his professional career as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy where he also completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce at UNSW.
Brad Couper
COO, Assignar Biography:
A keen innovator with a long held view of the benefits of utilising technology for the streamlining of office and field connectivity for contractors in order to improve operations, drive efficiency gains and improve the bottom line.
Brad founded a field technology company in 2007, prior to the advent of smartphones and tablets, that drove massive productivity gains for contractors collecting field data for construction progress reporting, field service updates, billing and more.
Upon acquisition of that field tech business by simPRO Software in 2009, Brad went on to lead the global expansion of simPRO as CEO, launching into three international markets and grew the team to 250 people on four continents.
Brad recently co-founded TriBuild, a US based construction technology start up focused on solving complex, often labor intensive workflow challenges for contractors.
In addition, Brad is currently operating as an advisor to Assignar as they take their cloud based compliance, asset and workforce management platform global to help contractors in highly regulated industries.
