DevOps and Cloud: A Tale of Two Trends

DevOps a compound of "development" and "operations" is a culture, movement or practice that emphasizes the collaboration and communication of both software developers and other information-technology (IT) professionals while automating the process of software delivery. It aims at establishing a culture and environment where building, testing, and releasing software, can happen rapidly, frequently, and more reliably.

The keynote presentation being delivered by Mangesh Surve, Senior Director- Sales Consulting- Database, Oracle India talks about how adoption of DevOps is being driven by Cloud Native Applications & introduces the comprehensive set of products and tools from oracle that help you achieve your DevOps goals.

Session Descriptions

Making DevOps Really Work

From hardcore Java EE programming to adopting microservice architecture as the norm, DevOps processes are key to getting a lot more done more efficiently. But actually making it happen necessitates both a technical and cultural change for a new level of collaboration across development, QA and operations. In this session, you'll learn some of the core technical and cultural shifts you need to keep in mind, and how Oracle is providing tools and technology to support you as you streamline your unique development, management and operational processes

Deploying Lightweight Java and Node.js Apps in Oracle Cloud

The software landscape is changing- lightweight (micro)services are being used to build extremely scalable and reliable products and services, developers and enterprises are increasingly embracing DevOps practices, and vendors like Oracle are providing comprehensive cloud platforms that support these new approaches to software development and deployment.

In this session we'll introduce the new Application Container Cloud (ACC), a Docker container based application platform as a service (APaaS), which provides initial support for deploying Java SE and Node.js applications with upcoming support for PHP, Python, Ruby, and other popular languages. ACC embraces 12 Factor App principals making it an ideal platform for lightweight application deployment with declarative configuration, elastic scaling, along with easy access to the entire Oracle Cloud Platform ecosystem of cloud services so you can build true cloud native applications.

Come see a demonstration of the Application Container Cloud with both Java SE and Node and see how easy it is to deploy your lightweight applications to the cloud by following three simple steps: build, zip, deploy!

How to Use Java Cloud Service for Java EE Testing in The Cloud

See how to use WebLogic in Java Cloud Service to develop and test applications from a local development computer (ie: run the tests on a remote WebLogic server), and how to use Arquillian and Maven to deploy integration tests on a remote WebLogic

Deploying Your Workloads Your Way With Oracle Cloud IaaS

This session will go into details of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service:

  • Provide customers with a Software Defined Virtualized Data Center in the Oracle Cloud
  • Offering a broad range of elastic Compute, Storage, and Network Services at a very cost effective rate
  • Allowing customers to migrate their existing Software Stacks and Infrastructure Automation Tools without needing to re-write them (as with Amazon, Azure, Google)
  • While providing them deep control and unmatched security, governance, and performance

The Future of Docker Containers and DevOps in the Cloud

Docker, the OS-level virtualisation platform, taking the IT world by storm. In this session, we will see what features Docker has for our developers. It is now possible to create truly isolated, self-contained and robust integration tests in which external dependencies are realised as Docker containers. Docker also changes the way we ship applications in that we are not only deploying application artifacts like WARs or EARs but also their execution contexts. Besides elaborating on these concepts and more, this presentation will focus on how Docker can best be integrated into the Oracle products such as Java, Oracle MySQL, Weblogic, Coherence, etc.
Mobile for Cloud
Mobile for Cloud

In this track, we'll show how you can quickly build and deploy mobile applications with ease. Developers will learn how to design and implement backend APIs, connect with third-party services, expose as mobile optimized API, and monitor the consumption of those APIs. Learn how a robust mobile backend can speed up mobile application development from REST API design to Node.JS based implementation. See how to incorporate push notification, offline data, storage and mobile application analytics into your mobile application and how to extend Oracle SaaS solutions. Hear about how to build mobile applications with Oracle mobile development frameworks and tools that facilitate and expedite the design, build, packaging, and distribution of your enterprise mobile applications. Whether you are using native or hybrid development architecture, the Oracle Mobile Cloud Service will make it easy to create engaging mobile applications faster.

Rapid REST design/deploy backend with Oracle Database Cloud Service

In this session you'll learn how to quickly deploy JSON-based RESTful services to web-enable data stored in your Oracle Database using simple SQL queries and PL/SQL blocks. This session walks through the creation of a web API and the process of enabling secure access for browser - and mobile-based apps and for server-to-server access both on premises and in the Oracle Cloud.

Native Web and Mobile Application Development with Database in the Cloud

In this session, you'll learn how to use Oracle Application Express to rapidly develop and deploy Web 2.0 applications for desktop and mobile. This declarative development environment is tailor-made for the cloud, and you'll learn how to design, develop and deploy beautiful, responsive, database-driven applications using only your web browser, running in the Oracle Cloud.

Discover and Prepare Your Big Data Directly in the Cloud

There is a perception that most of the time spent in Big Data projects is dedicated to harvesting value. The reality is that 90% of the time in Big Data projects is really spent on understanding and preparing data. Data may be structured, but more often it will be semi-structured such as weblogs, where the data is machine generated and may be human readable, or fully unstructured such as free form text. The content is vast, inconsistent, and incomplete, often off topic, from multiple differing formats and sources. In this environment each new data set takes weeks or months of effort to process, frequently requiring programmers writing custom scripts. Minimizing data preparation time is the key to unlocking the potential of Big Data.

During the session we will highlight how easy it is to use Oracle Big Data technologies for non-technical staff and the amazing technology behind it, which intuitively guides users via a machine learning based recommendation engine smart enough to explore, prepare, classify, and enrich large amounts of data and turn it into useful data for downstream analytics.

How to Analyse Big Data Using Oracle Cloud

In this session, learn how Oracle Big Data SQL uses its Smart Scan feature, SQL, and storage indexing technology to make big data feel small. Additionally, learn how to use your existing SQL skills and BI tools to deliver big data analytics using Oracle Big Data SQL on-prem and on the Oracle Cloud.

Monitoring & Management for Cloud Services
Monitoring & Management for Cloud Services

As application delivery accelerates in the cloud era, enterprises need to change the way they manage those applications by adapting to rapidly-changing environments, encouraging DevOps collaboration and eliminating operational data silos. In this track you'll learn how Oracle Management Cloud (OMC) addresses these new challenges by providing a suite of next-generation, integrated monitoring, management and analytics solutions delivered as a service on Oracle Cloud. OMC is designed for today's heterogeneous application environments that span on-premises data centers, Oracle Cloud and third-party cloud services - enabling customers to eliminate multiple information silos across end-user and infrastructure data, trouble-shoot problems faster and run IT like a business.
