Bill Nesheim is currently Vice President of Solaris Platform Engineering in Oracle's Hardware Systems group, where he is responsible for the design and development of the system software foundations for our latest systems including those based on the new SPARC M7 chip. Bill joined Oracle as part of the Sun acquisition in 2010, and has built his career on engineering hardware and software to work together. Over his 16 years at Sun Bill held a variety of systems software technical leadership positions within Sun's Solaris and Systems organizations, working across microelectronics, software and systems hardware to deliver key system software components for new platforms.
Before joining Sun Bill designed and developed systems software at massively parallel supercomputer manufacturer Thinking Machines Corporation. A graduate of Cornell University, Bill holds several patents in the area of cluster interconnect technology, system software support for non-uniform memory architecture platforms, massively parallel systems and high performance I/O. Bill is based at Oracle's New England Development Center near Boston MA.

Carla Arend is a program director with the European software and infrastructure research team, responsible for managing the European storage research and co-leading IDC's European cloud research practice. As part of her research, she covers topics such as software-defined storage, OpenStack, flash, cloud storage, and data protection, among others.

His track record includes the Swedish BankID solution, low-latency JVMs, the JRockit/Java Flight Recorder, Exalogic and the integration of Sun Java into Oracle including the development of Java SE 7, Java SE 8 and reinvention of Java ME as an IoT edge platform. He is currently focused on customer adoption of the new IoT Cloud Service in EMEA, and in the new value that IoT can bring in terms of optimized process, new insights and new business models.
