Oracle 12c Database New Features – Plug into the Cloud
In July 2013, Oracle announced availability of Oracle Database 12c, containing many new features, and introducing a new multitenant architecture for consolidating multiple databases quickly.
As well as the multitenant architecture, 12c includes Automatic Data Optimization with Heat Map, for compressing and tiering data at a higher density, Application Continuity, a new capability which masks many outages from end users and applications and Active Data Guard Far Sync, that provides zero data loss protection for a production database by maintaining a synchronized standby database located at any distance from the primary location. These unique advancements, combined with major enhancements in availability, security, and big data support, make Oracle Database 12c the ideal platform for private and public cloud deployments.
This Developer Day workshop provides hands-on exercises with the 12c database, and will cover 12c Database and Multitenant which is a key new technology in Oracles DBaaS cloud offering. We will also explore how Multitenant works with Oracle Cloud giving extensive scalability while providing greatly reduced management overheads. The key technologies that will be covered are:
- Oracle Multitenant architecture. With Oracle Multitenant, a single container database can now host many pluggable databases. Each database that has been consolidated—or plugged into—the multitenant container looks and feels to applications exactly the same as the preconsolidated version
- Data Redaction enforces controls inside the database—not in the application—by redacting data before returning it to the application.
- SQL Developer for 12c. Using SQL Developer to access and use Oracle Database 12c
- Automatic data optimization, which monitors the data's age as well as its usage (or “temperature”) and then automatically moves it to the appropriate storage and compression tiers.
- SQL, RMAN, SQL Tuning new features
